Marines physical training uniform

The United States Marine Corps has a specific uniform combination for wear when running, working out or engaging in physical training (PT). Known as the physical training uniform, Marine running gear is regulated by Marine Corps Order P1020.34.

All items worn by Marines conducting PT as a group are subject to uniformity, at the commander's discretion.

The standard PT uniform, which consists of green shorts and a green undershirt, is required, though, and is considered to be the standard PT
  • Shirt: Plain green cotton t-shirt, though synthetic brands are authorized without any logos
  • Shorts: Plain green nylon or "silky" shorts
  • Sweatshirt: Green sweatshirt with black USMC and Eagle, Globe, and Anchor on left chest
  • Sweatpants: Green sweatpants with black USMC and Eagle, Globe, and Anchor on left thigh
  • Shoes: appropriate civilian design, excessive bright coloring or designs are prohibited
  • Socks: commercial calf-length or ankle-length, plain white socks with no logos.
  • Watch cap: fleece, coyote brown, black, or OD green (replaced the black wool knit cap)
  • Hydration pack: green or coyote brown (or subdued colors if personally-owned packs are authorized)
The cold weather PT uniform is considered a "recommended" uniform item for Marines. It consists of a The lightweight, olive green trousers and zip up jacket with "Marines" blazoned in red across its back will supplement the cotton sweat suits troops wear over their T-shirts and shorts. The suit is water-resistant and quick-drying with an anti-microbial lining that deters bacteria and odor. The jacket has air vents under the arms and in the back, a fold-down collar, reflective piping and can be cleaned in a washing machine and dryer.
